Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site

Project leaders: Julie Itz and David Itz
County: Washington
Address: 23400 Park Road 12, Washington, TX 77880
VMS opportunity: Washington on the Brazos State Park

Washington-on-the-Brazos Independence Hall

Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site (The Birthplace of Texas) is a beautiful historical park, now under the management of the Texas Historical Commission. It affords a monthly volunteer opportunity for Texas Master Naturalists, usually on a Saturday from 9:30-11:30 am. Our Chapter maintains a pollinator garden near the Visitor Center providing habitat and nectar sources for Monarch butterflies and other native butterflies and pollinators. As visitors pass by the pollinator garden from the parking lot to the Visitor Center we hope they will be interested in learning more about planting for pollinators. The park and grounds are now open from 9:30 am – 5pm. On Mondays and Tuesdays visits to the Visitor Center and grounds do not require a ticket. From Wednesdays to
Saturdays visitors to the Townsite, Barrington Farm, the Visitor Center and the grounds are required to purchase tickets. Our work in the pollinator garden is outside the area where a ticket is needed. If you have an interest in helping at this Park in Washington, Texas (on the Brazos River in Washington County), please contact Julie Itz or David Itz.
