Citizen Science and iNaturalist

Craig Hensley

Craig Hensley is one of two Texas Nature Trackers Biologists with the Community Stewardship and Engagement Program within TPWD’s Wildlife Diversity section, having served in this position for the past four and a half years.

Craig is a lifelong naturalist and educator, serving as a naturalist/interpreter for non-profit nature centers in Minnesota and Nebraska, and government agencies in Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, and for the past 13+ years with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Craig brings a broad-based knowledge of natural history, from birds and insects to mammals and herps to native plants of Texas. He teaches several workshops on these topics to TMN chapters as well as his primary focus now on iNaturalist and citizen science. He is an instructor with National Wildlife Federation’s Monarch Stewards program, a licensed bird bander and a grower of native plants.

Craig has two grown children, Dr. Jennifer Hensley, a pediatrician with two granddaughters in the Boston area, and son Dr. Noah Hensley, a senior technical advisor for the water services regulator in New Zealand, where he lives with his wife, two daughters, and a son. Craig, who is married to Hill Country Chapter TMN, Terry Lashley, is always delighted to share his passion and love of the natural world and how you can engage others to make a positive difference.
