Webinar. April 10th 7pm CST.
How to Love a Forest, with forester Ethan Tapper and USFS Forest Supervisor Mike Chaveas. Much like Leopold, Tapper acquired a tract of sick, neglected land―a woodlot in Vermont he dubbed “Bear Island”―and, through trial and error, experimentation and observation, grief and love, has learned that ecological restoration is a complex web of difficult and challenging decisions. Doing right by the land does not always mean doing what’s easiest for us.
Tapper recounts this sometimes painful, but always rewarding journey in his new book, How to Love a Forest: The Bittersweet Work of Tending a Changing World, and will take the virtual stage in conversation with Mike Chaveas. Supervisor of the Hoosier National Forest, Chaveas will share his experience of restoration on public lands as well as community efforts to reimagine what forest stewardship looks like.
