dentifying birds by their unique calls is hard enough, but Blue Jays and Northern Mockingbirds take it to another level by copying the sounds of other species. Still, there are clues you can use to pin down these masterful mimics. In this class we’ll go over the basics of birding by ear and then work through the many sounds of jays and mockingbirds. We’ll listen to tons of recordings to explore the variation within each species. Then we’ll go on a bird walk to practice our ID skills.
Notes: Wear walking shoes and dress for the weather. Binoculars will be available to borrow.
