Saturday Nov 30th Rescheduled to December 14th 11am – 2pm in person at Bastrop Botanical Gardens, 316 Old 71, Cedar Creek, Texas.
The Central Texas Mycological Society is hosting a hands-on workshop demonstrating the different steps involved in inoculating logs. Participants will bring a hardwood log (or receive from a limited supply) and bring an inoculated log home. Participants should be prepared to operate a drill, mallet, and carry their own hardwood log (recommended size for easy handling is 3”-7” diameter and two or three feet in length.) Mushroom log inoculation is an efficient way to grow edible and medicinal mushrooms. This workshop is a very hands-on process where we will handle and inoculate logs with Shiitake Mushroom spawn plugs. These mushrooms help to decompose tree limbs that came down in the drought this summer and deep freeze this winter and reduce potential wildfire fuel which is really important in this bioregion. Participants should bring a freshly cut hardwood log (some logs will be available) and a cordless drill with charged battery, and wear closed toe shoes.
