AT: Citizen Science: Save Houston’s Biodiversity with Your Phone by Jaime Gonzalez

April 21, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - April 22, 2020 @ 7:30 pm

$10 – $16

Houston is well known for its world-class medical center, port, energy industry, and its stunning human cultural and ethnic diversity. Yet, few know that the Houston-Galveston region is also a pulsing biodiversity hotspot, home to everything from bald eagles to hammerhead sharks. Now this natural diversity and beauty is imperiled by a variety of threats. Conservationists are racing to understand, document, and conserve our area³ stunning flora and fauna, and they need your help as a citizen scientist!

Join award-winning biologist Jaime González of The Nature Conservancy, and local conservation groups, on a journey of discovery as we explore Houston’s rich biodiversity and how you can participate as a citizen scientist in the 2020 City Nature Challenge a competition to observe and record biodiversity in over 150 cities across the world. We’ll also show you the newest generation of nature-oriented smartphone apps, including the iNaturalist app used for the City Nature Challenge.

Come celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, kick off the City Nature Challenge for Houston, and join the ranks of conservationists working to save the Bayou City’s rich wildlife!

Co-Sponsored with The Nature Conservancy in Texas and Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

Early Bird pricing available until 4/15.
