“From Balconies to Backyards” Nature Event

The Good Water Master Naturalist Chapter is excited to invite the public to our upcoming nature and conservation event, “From Balconies to Backyards: Taking care of what you have,” on Saturday, July 22, 2023. This event features nationally known conservationist and author Dr. Doug Tallamy plus sessions by local experts. Attendees have the opportunity to participate in-person or virtually.

From Balconies to Backyards is at the Williamson County Annex building located at 100 Wilco Way, Georgetown, TX 78626, from 1:00 – 7:00 pm, and registration is open to all. The main theme is working with the space you have now and doing what you can to conserve and protect nature in that space.

Ticket price for In-Person attendance is $30 per person and includes a box dinner. Virtual tickets are $15 per person. Registration is available at: https://txmn.org/goodwater/13556-2/ 

Deadline to register for in-person tickets is July 14, 2023.

  • 1:00 pm – Wizzie Brown, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Travis/Williamson County Entomologist
    • Topic:  “How to attract insects to your yard and why you should want to.”
  • 2:00 pm – Jane Tillman, Travis Audubon
    • Topic: “Put Out the Welcome Mat for Backyard Birds”
  • 3:00 pm – Jessica Woods, City of Round Rock Water Conservation Program Coordinator
    • Topic: “Drop by Drop: The Impact of Small Changes on Water Conservation”
  • 4:00 pm – Beth Erwin, Williamson County Native Plant Society
    • Topic:  “Drought Tolerance-Nothing Works Like Natives”
  • 5:00 pm – Dinner Break

 

  • 6:00 pm – Dr. Doug Tallamy, T.A. Baker Professor of Agriculture in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware, Keynote Speaker
    • Topic: “Nature’s Best Hope.” This is also the title of his 2020 book, “Nature’s Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation That Starts in Your Yard.”

Each speaker will present for 45-50 minutes with a short break between.

Master Naturalists and Master Gardeners can count this event for AT hours. Check with your chapter on the reporting category.

Vendors will be part of the event. Participants have an opportunity to learn about native plants, Master Naturalists, rain water harvesting, and much more.
