AT: Insect Pinning with Mickey Alice Kwapis

IN PERSON – Join entomologist Lauren Davidson and taxidermist Mickey Alice Kwapis on a tour of the Cockrell Butterfly Center. Get a peek behind the scenes and learn all about incredible insect life cycles, then make your way to our classroom to start your own entomology specimen collection.

Students will each learn how to prepare, pose, and dry their own lepidopteran (butterfly or moth) AND beetle specimen to take home. Students keep their tool sets and specimens, and will be provided with framing instructions to use with the frame of their choice at home.

All supplies provided. Ages 13+. Minors must be accompanied by a ticketed adult. This class involves fragile specimens and sharp pins, please use your best judgment when determining if it is a good fit. Class includes a tour in the Cockrell Butterfly Center.
