AT: Invasive workshops added to symposium schedule

October 17, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

FREE

The Invaders of Texas organization has scheduled citizen scientist training classes around the fall symposium dates to make it convenient for registrants to attend. Advanced training sessions are planned before and after the symposium.

The workshops will be taught by Hans Landel, Ph.D., Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Invasive Species Program Director on Wednesday, October 17, 1:00 – 4:00 pm and again on Sunday, October 21, 3:00 – 6:00 pm. Both classes will be at Mission Branch Library, 3134 Roosevelt Avenue in San Antonio.

These free workshops will cover the Sentinel Pest Network, focusing on training citizen scientists to identify and report several specific species of high concern, some of which have not made it to Texas – yet. The trainees will become the eyes on the lookout for these species, as members of the Early Detection and Rapid Response team, and learn how to report them online and using the Texas Invasives mobile app. The workshop will also present general information on invasive species.

Registration is first come, first served and limited to 70 in each session. The workshops are open to the public; you do not have to be attending the symposium to attend the training.
