Audubon Texas hosts fruitful panel conversations on the impacts of air pollution to birds’ health and habitat
Bird abundance is an important indicator of the health of ecosystems. Sensitive to toxins and pollutants, problems detected in wild birds can serve as an early warning system that something is wrong in the environment.
What then can birds tell us about the quality of our air?
Recent studies have confirmed that birds are afflicted by the same respiratory problems as humans when exposed to air pollution. In addition, field studies have shown that the effects of air pollution can extend to bird habitats as well, changing the landscape in subtle but important ways.
Join us for a Bird Friendly Texan Webinar with experts on air pollutions impact to the health of people, our feathered friends and what you can do to help. We all deserve to breathe clean air whether you walk on two legs, four or fly.
When: Rescheduled to Wednesday, June 21st at 12:00pm
What: A Need for Cleaner Air: Impacts of Air Pollution to People and Birds
Thanks to a recent article in Audubon California, “Birds suffer from air pollution, just like we do” attention has been brought to the harmful impacts of air pollutants such as ground level ozone, nitrogen oxide and particulate matter to the health and habitats of birds. Across Audubon and with partners, we strive to understand the science and work together to make changes for the betterment of our ecosystem. This panel will also cover Audubon’s Bird Migration Explorer and how to use this tool, which is a guide to the heroic annual journeys made by over 450 bird species, and the challenges they face along the way.
