AT: Our Prairies and A Prehistory of Houston and Southeast Texas with Historian Dan Worrall

July 26, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

Hybrid. In Person (Houston) or via Zoom (inquire for link)

Join us as Dan Worrall talks about Houston’s Prairies and our undiscovered or forgotten past. With his latest book, “A Prehistory of Houston and Southeast Texas,” the retired Shell geologist ventures back 30,000 years to the last Glacial Age.

With assistance from Rice University geologist John Anderson and geophysicists at Compagnie Generale de Geophysique in Houston, he recreates the dramatically evolving landscape and the culture that emerged from the cooler climate over millennia. It’s a culture that lived sustainably on the land we call home for more than 13,000 years, until overwhelmed by European disease and colonization.

“Dan Worrall is a retired Shell geologist and a gifted historian. He is a member of the Harris County Historical Commission who writes and publishes books as a labor of love. He has an almost uncanny ability to dig deep and uncover Houston’s undiscovered or forgotten past.”  The Houston Chronicle
