Galveston Island State Park is hosting in-the-field guided angler education “Basic Angler Education for Galveston Bay” on Sunday mornings in August and September from 9am – 12pm.  This is a hands-on experience with gear and guide for fishing Galveston Bay.  Participants may bring their own gear or sign up for loaner gear.  Registration is required; visit webpage here to register.

Participants will meet in person at the Nature Center at Galveston Island State Park followed by a short drive to a fishing spot.  Participants should dress for existing weather conditions with limited shade.   Events may be cancelled during inclement weather.

Available dates are August 4th, August 11, August 18, August 25, September 1, September 8, September 15.  (TMNs please register for only one date for AT credit.)

This program has very little shade so hats and sunglasses are highly recommended. Plan ahead – you could get wet.

  • Meet: Nature Center, drive to fishing location
  • Cost: Entry fee is $5 for adults and FREE for children 12 & under. Park entry is free with a State Parks Pass.

Attention TMNs:  Attendance to one of these listings may be applied towards AT credit hours.  Note this listing is not the same as “Angler Education for Master Naturalists” which prepares the participant for provision of Angler Ed workshops.   This listing is a hands-on experience with training specific to fishing Galveston Bay with a TPWD guide.  Please use the VMS log in category shown below.
