AT: TPWD Guided Hike – Understanding the Marsh Ecosystems of West Bay (Lake Como cove)

This 1.5 hour guided field hike will be offered on 5 Saturdays between August and October along the cove waters of West Bay near Galveston Island State Park.  Dates available for registration are August 17, August 31, September 14, September 28, and October 26.   To register please visit webpage here.  (Note: TMNs may receive AT credit hours for attendance to one event listing.)

Participants will meet at the Galveston State Park Nature Center.  Explore the marsh and bay ecosystems on land and below the surface with TPWD staff.  Galveston Bay is full of life, and as the grasses of the prairie descend into the marsh, the plant and animal life changes with the tides.  Learn how to become a defender of the bay by learning who and what calls the bay home.  This hike will explore the ecosystems of the marsh areas in and around Galveston Bay.

This is an outdoor event with very little shade and is weather dependent. Hats and sunglasses are highly recommended. Wear close-toed shoes and clothing that you can get wet.

  • Bring: Sunscreen, bug spray, water, weather appropriate clothing and close-toed shoes that can get wet.
  • Meet: Nature Center, then drive to Lake Como
  • Cost: Entry fee is $5 for adults and FREE for children 12 & under. Park entry free with a State Parks Pass.

 

TMN’s: attendance to one event listing may be counted towards AT credit hours.  Attendance to one offering may be attributed under the maximum 4 hours’ of certification training under the Texas Waters Specialist program, as an educational field event hosted by the TPWD partner organization.
