AT: TPWD & Texas Black Bear Alliance (TBBA) Educational Meeting

Hybrid, virtual and in person.  Free.  Pre-Registration required, link here.  If joining by zoom pre-register to receive the zoom link sent on day of meeting.

In person location will be at the Ellen Trout Zoo, 402 Zoo Circle, Lufkin, TX 75904.  The meeting will be in the education center, the first building you see on Zoo Circle. It is not inside the zoo and an entrance fee is not required.

Parking is limited in front of the building but is available along the street.

Session Speakers include:

  • Inspirational Keynote Speaker and Award-Winning Photographer Alicia White will kick-off the program.
  • Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Dana Karelus, State Mammal Specialist, will speak on ongoing Black Bear research and recovery in Texas.
  • Kati Spears, Founder & Executive Director of Bears, Etc. will share findings on the types and classification of possible bear sightings throughout the state.
  • Kenneth and Lori Hilscher will share their lessons learned in co-existing with black bears and bear behavior.
  • TBBA’s President and Big Thicket Natural Heritage Trust will provide closing remarks and provide insight on what to expect in the coming year.

In addition to current research findings the attendee will learn about the recovery efforts for bear habitat, attributes of bear behavior, and how to successfully coexist with bears.
