AT:Gulf Coast Prairie in the Wild Urban Plains: Experiences and Practices in Memorial Park

September 27, 2023 @ 6:45 pm - 8:00 pm

Virtual. More info will be posted when available…

Memorial Park is a 1466 acre conservancy – in the heart of Houston. Opened 99 years ago in 1924, the park is one of the largest urban parks in the UnitedStates. The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife that inhabit ecosystems from woodlands to savannahs and prairies to wetlands. Join Courtney Hall, Manager of Conservation Operations, Memorial Park Conservancy for the September meeting as she shares about the prairie ecosystem in the park.

Courtney came to the Conservancy after serving four years as an ecologist at the U.S. Geological Survey’s Wetland and Aquatic Research Center in Lafayette, Louisiana. While there, she worked in coastal wetlands to understand how plant diversity and biological, chemical, and physical processes contribute to the overall ecological health and services of these unique and special habitats. Her educational track took her to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and TAMU at Galveston. Her passion is to get others, especially our future generations, jazzed about science, conservation, and stewardship.
