Coastal Prairie Chapter programs are free and open to the public. This program will be held in-person at the Rosenberg Civic Center. Please plan to arrive at 6:00 pm for refreshments and social time.
Join us for an evening of education as certified arborist Michael (“Mickey”) Merritt explains why choosing natives over introduced species in landscapes and/or natural areas not only increases their chances of survival but is good for wildlife. He will discuss common trees and shrubs and highlight underutilized species. The presentation will also provide a listing of available online resources.
Michael (Mickey) Merritt has been working in the industry for nearly 40 years. Recently retired from a 25 year career with Texas A&M Forest Service, he is a Certified Forester, Certified Arborist, TRAQ Qualified and Municipal Specialist, an Urban Forest Strike Team Leader and member of the National Big Tree Registry Cadre. Merritt has served in utility arboriculture, private industry and more recently as an Urban & Community Forester for Texas A&M Forest Service and earned the title of 2021 Texas Arborist of the Year. His geographical experience extends from Louisiana to West Texas, but wherever he is working, whether he is teaching or doing, Mickey brings professionalism and excellence.
