John Paul Landing Environmental Education Center opened quietly in mid-February 2020, and then promptly stopped all activities due to Covid. They have just been transitioned to a new precinct, and they have planned a “Grand Re-Opening” so that they can finally make a big announcement to the public that the Environmental Education Center is open and offering programs and activities. There is a Harris County Precinct 4 Events team that is steering the event, but the Kleb Woods Nature Center is trying to help provide a nature focus that they feel is representative of their center.
The Re-Opening is on May 21 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. They are looking to have nature-related interactive or educational information and activities for visitors to the event. This will also provide an opportunity for us to talk about the TMN program and what we do as well.
So far they will also have Katy Prairie Conservancy doing a seed planting and/or seed ball activity, a fishing activity around the lake, possibly the Texas Parks and Wildlife game warden trailer, and are looking into the possibility of some aquatic plant education.
Volunteers are needed to plan and set up a TMNCPC booth. The Skins and Skulls WOW or the new Birding WOW would be great for this event. To volunteer, watch for a SignUp Genius that will be emailed to all chapter members.
