Program: Field Trip to Delores Fenwick Nature Center

The Delores Fenwick Nature Center (DFNC), located in the John Hargrove Environmental Complex, is Pearland’s premiere environmental education facility.

The Nature Center aims to provide hands-on educational opportunities through programs, workshops, field trips, and outreaches. Their focus is teaching Pearland about the native plants and animals found in our own backyards. Visitors to the DFNC will get to view a variety of live native animals, touch and examine different bio-facts at the touch table, play with the interactive exhibits, and participate in nature crafts. Outside, on the nature center grounds, there are almost 2 miles of walking trails that surround two ponds which house bird nesting islands and a multitude of resident and migratory bird species, turtles, and other wildlife. So, don’t forget to bring your binoculars and guide books. The nature center has several rookeries and a multitude of bird species that reside there throughout the year.

Our day will begin at 9:30 am, with a guided tour of the facility, giving you a chance to view the exhibits and ask as many questions as you like. Following the presentation, you will have an opportunity to explore the miles of walking trails or possibly visit the Edible Fruit Trail, to see which fruit is in season during your visit. You may also decide to traverse the route to the Fite Road Bridge observation area, where about 10,000 Mexican free-tailed bats take flight just before sunset

Take a break from hiking the trails to enjoy lunch (bring your own) at the center’s outdoor pavilion, which has picnic tables that overlook the lake.

Admission to the Nature Center and the surrounding trails is FREE.
