Seabourne Annual Tree Planting Days

The Coastal Prairie Chapter applied for and was awarded a 2022 Apache Corporation Grant of 100 trees. This has become an annual tree planting event for the Chapter at Seabourne Park.  The trees we’ve chosen this year include many bird-attracting plants such as black tupelo, red mulberry and wax myrtle.  We’re making the planting easier this year by using our new augur attachment on the tractor to dig the holes for us!

We are planning on at least two planting day events with groups of 10 volunteers each.  We plan to plant 50 trees each day. The planting dates are Wednesday March 23 from 8am to 12 noon, and Saturday March 26 from 8am to 12 noon.

Coffee, donuts, and water will be provided. Bring your own water bottle.

We need more 5 gallon buckets to finish quicker; ID label and bring your own buckets if you have them.

Each date will have several tasks you can sign-up for, they are:

• Planting Team – water empty hole, move amendment soil from bump-up area into 5 gallon buckets, prepare tree roots for planting, set the tree, fill the hole with soil, water planted trees, install three T-posts around each tree.
• Water Cart – Drives our touring cart with the water tank to the tree planting sites to water the tree holes when needed.
• Pick-up Truck Driver – drive your own pick-up truck to deliver the 5 gallon buckets of amendment soil, t-posts and trees to the day’s planting sites.
• Photographer – Optional
