AT: Using iNaturalist for SGCNs, Bioblitzes, and Projects

April 16 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Free

Classroom: 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM
Location: 1402 Band Road, “The Range”

Members Shannon Westveer and Kerry Padilla will inform other Texas Master Naturalists Coastal Prairie Chapter how to get data effectively and efficiently into the iNaturalist citizen science platform to assist co-sponsor  Texas Nature Trackers in collecting data for Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCNs), bioblitzes like City Nature Challenge, and even for projects like Seabourne Creek Nature Park.

The classroom presentation will be followed by in-field practice at Seabourne Creek Nature Park across the way.

TMNCPC Members: Look for the SignUp Genius to be blasted to membership by the April 2nd Weekly Bulletin.

All attendees must create and activate an iNaturalist account whether or not the smartphone app will be used in the field. Additionally, if you will not be using your smartphone to submit photos or recordings directly (with the iNaturalist app), plan to use your DSLR camera / recording device  for processing and uploading images or recordings to iNaturalist.

Space is limited at the in-person meeting for TMNCPC members only. Look for the SignUp Genius pinned to the #proj-citizen-science or #vsp channels on Slack or on the emailed Weekly Bulletin. Master Naturalists from other chapters are welcome to join us for the field practice immediately following. We will be uploading observations to one of several Seabourne Creek Nature Park projects.

Field Practice: 2:30 PM until 3:30 PM
Location: Seabourne Creek Nature Park

Lecture portion is AT: Master Naturalists Taught Advanced Training
