Bring the entire family to Sugar Land Memorial Park after dark on Saturday, July 15, 2023, for a Texas Master Naturalist Coastal Prairie Chapter (TMNCPC) Blacklighting and “Mothing” Event. There will be lots of fun and engaging information about Fort Bend’s nighttime neighbors. So, kids … be sure to bring your parents and grandparents.
Shannon Westveer, TMNCPC Class of 2019, and other passionate entomology amateurs from neighboring Master Naturalist chapters will be there with blacklight setups so that everyone can see all the “nighttime butterflies” — moths — right up close. There will also be information tables about other nighttime wildlife including bats, opossums, raccoons, and frogs. Come with a flashlight or headlamp and a curious mind and learn all about Fort Bend County’s nighttime wildlife neighbors at this public event. It is FREE and open to people of all ages and abilities. Don’t forget to have iNaturalist app (for adults) or Seek app (for kids) installed on your smartphones if you want to engage in the National Moth Week global citizen science event!
