The City Nature Challenge 2023 runs from Friday 4/28/2023 through Monday 5/1/2023 for recording observations, with an extension from Tuesday 5/2/2023 through Sunday 5/7/2023 to get those observations to Research Grade.
Let’s get TMNs and the public inspired to team up with the Houston-Galveston team for a fun and friendly competition to collect as many wild species in our counties as possible over the weekend. This VSP opportunity has been extended from Tuesday, 5/2/2023 through Sunday, 5/7/2023, for us to sit at computers attempting to achieve research grade IDs for our co-sponsor TPWD Nature Trackers. “It’s what TMNs are uniquely trained to do!”
“iNaturalist City Nature Challenge 2023: Houston-Galveston
Join The Nature Conservancy in Texas, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, Galveston Bay Foundation, Houston Audubon Society, Texas Master Naturalists, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and over 30 other wonderful groups for a fun challenge to observe and record wild species from April 28 – May 1, 2023. It is easy to participate by making observations on your own using the iNaturalist app. With the iNaturalist app, you just take a picture of a wild plant or animal, and the community will help identify which species it is. Any observation in the greater metropolitan area of Houston will count during the four-day challenge (April 28 through May 1). You can participate by exploring the life in your backyard (and use the hashtag #backyardchallenge on social media), in your neighborhood park, or from an apartment balcony or courtyard. You can also help with IDs for other people’s observations to increase our species count. The City Nature Challenge is organized by Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and California…”
