Our partner, Houston Humane Society, via Lauren DeShazo, needs help as outlined below:
They will be working with Andrea Hernandez, the Science Workshop Site Director at Edison MS from the Children’s Museum of Houston to update and prepare their school’s garden for native plantings and we thought this would be a good partner project that aligned with all of our missions.
She’s looking for around 25 volunteers total.
*A wetlands project will need to be dismantled because of climate change and the unpredictability of rain.
*Tasks include digging up plants, landscaping pavers, and rocks that were used.
*Beds will be established for the students to do native plantings during the summer program with the museum
*A Pond clean-up will also be occurring. With COVID closures, the workshop staff was unable to come to the school. Maintenance crews cut all the plants in the pond and let the debris fall in the water, thereby causing a depletion of oxygen.
*Tasks include removing unwanted plants and adding new plants
Possible Secondary Activity
They would like to have dirt delivered that day. Unfortunately, the truck cannot enter the garden and has to dump the dirt on the sidewalk. Volunteers will be needed to help move it in wheelbarrows.
