VSP: New Year Bird Count at Harrison-Burr

January 11 @ 7:00 am - 4:30 pm

A new tradition is starting in 2025 – a New Year Bird Count out at Harrison-Burr Property located in Wharton County

From Hannah Muegge: “I personally enjoying being on this property during the wintertime. The bald cypress trees have dropped their leaves, the winter skies and cooler weather, and of course the migrating waterfowl! ”

There are a few different options on the sign-up. A selection for our standard birding route, a route for the birding adventurer (difficult terrain and long distance), and an option for stationary birding! Plus, if you’re not an early riser, there’s an afternoon birding option. Please note for any first-time visitors to our Burr Property, this is an all-natural site – there are no indoor facilities (restrooms). I will have some beverages (water/Gatorade) and light snacks (muffins) available, but you are encouraged to pack a sack lunch or snacks and bring your own coffee! Registration is required via SignUp Genius (See #VSP channel on Slack) and all participants will be asked to complete our liability release waiver, to be provided electronically prior to the count.

Birders of all levels and experience are welcome; however, please be aware this hike does cover some difficult terrain.

Sign up for the morning or afternoon or both.

This is a free event but participation will be limited; therefore, registration is required.

[VSP hours to be recorded in VMS under: “James B Harrison Foundation Properties: TMN Report Hours”] Maximum 18 hours per day
