VSP: Seed Collecting at Gerhart Prairie

January 3 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join the Coastal Prairie Conservancy to collect local prairie plant seeds! Volunteers work to collect seeds which support numerous conservation programs in southeast Texas, and no experience is necessary. These volunteer opportunities have a tremendous impact on regional conservation efforts, and volunteers are invited to visit prairies not generally open to the public.

Seed collecting is a leisurely way to enjoy the prairie and learn prairie plants. Walk with a companion in the prairie and run your hand up the appropriate seed head. Seeds that easily fall in your hand are ripe for collection.

The Gerhart/Formosa Plastics Prairie is on Highway 288 feeder road between Houston and Angleton.  Google map . Please indicate how many people are in your party (include yourself). Note: scale starts from zero, in case you need to cancel.

Waivers needed if you do not have one on file for the past year: Coastal Prairie Conservancy liability waiver or CPC online and the Gerhart/Formosa Plastics liability waiver. To volunteers who are collecting for other organizations, we would appreciate it, if you would donate a portion of your seeds to CPC.
