According to McDonald Observatory, near El Paso,Texas, light pollution threatens billions of organisms migrating across Texas each year in spring.
Lights Out Texas! is a collaborative effort among Audubon Society,Texas A&M University (Biodiversity Research and Teaching Collections), Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (Texas Nature Trackers), The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and, BirdCast.
Lights Out Texas! mission is to increase awareness at the business, local, official, municipal, and community levels for the billions of organisms navigating across Texas affected by light pollution in Texas’ night skies.
Simply turn off your non – essential house lights between 11pm and 6:00 am. Not only are you conserving energy, you are helping seasonal migrations!
