Chapter Meeting for March 2026
Our March chapter meeting will be held at Winedale Historic Center beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Following the business meeting, we will have several presentations by chapter members from the 2025 and 2026 training classes.
AT Program: Starting at approximately 10:30 a.m., we look forward to hosting family members who are descendants of our namesake naturalist, Gideon Lincecum.
Gideon Lincecum: A Look Back 150+ Years Later: Our presenters are cousins, David Lincecum and Mark Lincecum, respectively, 6th and 5th generation descendants of the man our chapter is named for. You may have read books by David’s father, Jerry Bryan Lincecum, a Texas folklorist and historian. David will read excerpts from Gideon’s own writings, highlighting thoughts penned during his 7-month journey to Texas. Gideon Lincecum observed a “Texas unvarnished by human animals,” and that helped him decide to move here in 1848 at age 30 with his wife Sarah and their 10 children. Gideon was more than a botanist; he lived a long, and interesting life before arriving in Texas; he was larger than life, so expect to be educated and entertained.
Gideon Lincecum Monument: After the program, you may walk over to the Gideon Lincecum Arboretum across the road to see the tallgrass pocket prairie and the monument erected along the trail maintained by our chapter.
We encourage all chapter members to attend and as always, guests are welcome.
