Giddings ISD 4th grade in-school field trip

May 20, 2022 @ 6:30 am - 1:00 pm

VMS opportunity – Educational Group Presentations

Our chapter will be assisting with an in-school field trip for all 4th grade students. There will be six stations, listed below, with our chapter hosting our Bug Bingo as one of the stations.

The address for Giddings Intermediate School is 2337 N. Main Street, Giddings, Texas. It has been reported that the link from Google Maps is directing you to an address on S. Main, which is not correct. Please type Giddings Intermediate School into Google Maps if you are using that application to get to the correct address.

List of stations:

  1.  Aquatic/riparian – 1 volunteer (I don’t have any information on this station except that they will not have live animals.)
  2. Wildlife – 1 volunteer (Laura Sherrod will be bringing a river otter and possibly a snake.)
  3. Operation Game Thief – 0 volunteers
  4. Radio telemetry – 2 volunteers (One of the volunteers will have the tracking device that the students will track.)
  5. Seed balls – 2 -3 volunteers (This one could get messy. Kids, clay, compost. We will have a water basin and paper towels for the kids, and maybe us, to clean up.)
  6. Bug Bingo – 3 volunteers (We have three trifolds that contain the answers to the bingo questions. The students search for the information and fill in the answers on the bingo sheet. We have a prize caddy filled with plastic bugs. Each student that gets bingo gets a prize. Your job is to guide the students if they are having difficulty. I will be sending out the information on the trifolds for advance review if you have not volunteered for this game before.)

Timeline:

6:30 – 7:00 – Arrival and set up. I know this is early, especially for those coming from a distance. Agrilife is providing canopies and tables for all of the stations. I don’t need everyone to come this early, but if a few of you are able to help set up the stations, it would be a big help. Please let me know if you are able to arrive early for set-up.

7:30 – Muster for final planning. All volunteers should be on site. Note that you may be competing with carpool drop-off, which begins at 7:15.

8:00 – 10:00 – Students start First Rotations . Each station will have 6 total rotations, one of which is a break rotation. The rotation schedule is attached. We will have copies at each station and for each teacher escorting a group of students. I also have attached a map of the school grounds showing where each station will be located.

10:00 – 12:00 – Second group of students start rotations.

12:00 – Wrap up and lunch at Extension Office.
