VMS: Volunteer hours (including travel time) for OUTREACH BOOTH
On February 29 and March 1, 2020, the Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site will be the location of the Texas Independence Day Celebration.
This annual two-day celebration features live music, food, traditional crafts, living history presentations, firing demonstrations, historical encampments and commemorative programs. Guests will experience life in Texas in 1836 by visiting with re-enactors; witnessing firing demonstrations in the Texas Army camps; watching cooking, weaving and period craft demonstrations; and walking the same trail as Texas’ forefathers and pioneer families. Texas musicians and actors will provide musical and theatrical entertainment. A Kid Zone will allow children to dress up in historical costumes; sign a large-scale copy of the Texas Declaration of Independence; and take photos near the Declaration. Here is a link to the Foundation’s web page that includes the current schedule of events: http://wheretexasbecametexas.org/events/texas-independence-day-celebration-5/.
The GLC has volunteered to man a booth again at the annual Texas Independence Day celebration at Washington-on-the-Brazos. We need volunteers to man the booth on Saturday, February 29, 10 am-6 pm, and Sunday, March 1 10 am-3 pm.
Last year volunteers organized several shifts of chapter members each day. We may only need a couple volunteers for each shift.
This is a great opportunity to enjoy the activities, acquaint visitors with the Texas Master Naturalist program and the efforts of our chapter at this historic site.
Please contact Julie Itz by email (jwiemail@aol.com) if you can volunteer for a shift on Saturday and/or Sunday.
Hope you will take advantage of this great opportunity to enjoy the celebration and support our Chapter. And of course, your hours served goes toward your certification!
