Volunteer Opportunity: VMS Category: Winedale Landscape Project
The bed “edges” around our Gideon Lincecum Monument needs to be weeded and trimmed up a bit. The red penestamon has flourished and popped out seeds in the path which made new blooming plants that look great, so we left those. Perhaps, until our signs are ready, Betsy can give us the names of the various grasses, again so we can identify them on her clever “wine cork markers”. Most of those markers have disappeared…perhaps eaten up by the immensely successful grasses. I do volunteer to make them again if someone will give me their corks, and Betsy, their names. Jan has volunteered to weed eat behind the bed to tame back the field weeds that are trying to horn their way in.
The Pollinator bed needs to be groomed again, with huge cosmos plants being pulled, trailing plants tamed back a bit from the walkways, seed heads collected of those ready, and perhaps we can go ahead and mulch all beds for winter months to keep soil temperatures even and dissuade new weeds from popping up on warmer days.
I need to explore the availability of a more substantial water valve to install for our bird bath because we cannot seem to stem the water
flow enough to prevent it from over flowing. Help to change the existing valve out would be greatly appreciated.
Depending on the temperatures, I will bring hot chocolate and coffee to warm your bones, while you cover up with your jackets and gloves.
I’m going to suggest we meet at Winedale around 8:30 A.M. (real time), and we can divide into 2 groups…one for Trail, one for the
Pollinator Garden. Please bring leaf rakes, clippers, weed digging implements, and loppers….and everything else I am forgetting. With
enough hands, we should be able to get through it all in 2-3 hours, LEAVING IT PERFECT FOR THE HOLIDAYS.
Please R.S.V.P. so we can have a feel for how to plan (tools, hot chocolate, wheelbarrows, and plastic bags, etc. ).
Thanks in advance for your help.
