Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge

Project Leader: Jean Stipelcovich
County: Colorado
Regular Work Days: Every Friday from 8AM to Noon
Address: 1206 Apc NWR Rd, Eagle Lake, TX 77434
VMS opportunity: Attwater Prairie Chicken Refuge

Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge (APCNMR) is about 10,000 acres of mostly virgin coastal prairie managed for the endangered prairie chicken survival. Chapter volunteer activities are scheduled monthly and include habitat restoration through transplanting, managing invasives, collecting seeds, maintaining a native grasses demonstration plot, and seasonal prairie chicken pen rotation. It’s always a good day at the refuge with the silence of the tall grasses and chance encounters with birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians of all sorts. Visit the Attwater Prairie Chicken NWR on your own or join the work day team every Friday from 8:00 AM to noon-ish. The Attwater Prairie Chicken Project is in conjunction with the Coastal Prairie Chapter. The effort is led by Jean Stipelcovich from the Coastal Prairie chapter.
