VMS opportunity: Stephen F Austin State Park The chapter will be having a work morning at the SFA Wildscape Pollinator Garden beginning at 7:30AM on Thursday June 27. Please feel free to come out anytime. I imagine we will conclude by 11:00. Tasks at hand will be to clean out the dead spring flowers and get more native perennials in the ground. VMS opportunity: Stephen F. Austin State Park The chapter is working on phase 2 of the SFA SP Wildscape Pollinator Garden project. We left off last Fall with a prepared bed and defined areas in which to populate with the wildscape features (emphasis pollinators). The the metal edging is in so it is time to put in the gravel and stepping stones. Park volunteer Dennis will be hauling the gravel to the site with the tractor loader. TMN-GLC youth education is in full swing in the upcoming months. Local newspapers featured two recent youth education programs presented by TMN-GLC members. Third graders from Brenham Elementary enjoyed a presentation on eastern bluebirds by our own Carol Paulson and Jon Watkins. Coverage of the event was featured in the Brenham Banner Press online edition. Another TMN-GLC team, led by Tom Shaughnessy, took 6th graders from Sealy I.S.D. for a “walk in the park” at Stephen F. Volunteer Opportunity: VMS category: Educational Group Presentation Our chapter has been asked to host a learning event for Sealy ISD 6th graders on January 23, 2019. We will be setting up a series of learning stations that the students will rotate through in 20-minute increments. More details to be provided as the event planning progresses. Volunteer Opportunity: VMS category: Stephen F. Austin State Park Join Tom Shaughnessy in leading a First Day Hike at Stephen F. Austin State Park. Celebrate the first day of the new year with time spent in nature. Hikers should meet at the RV Park Restroom at 10:00 a.m. for an approximately 1 hour, 1.1 mile hike. There is no admission charge for certified TMN members willing to assist in interpreting and answering questions on the hike. Please check in at park HQ.

Volunteer Opportunity: VMS Category: Citizen Science other, enter NABA Butterfly Survey in text box This year’s North America Butterfly Survey for the Brazos River region will start at Stephen F. Austin State Park’s Headquarters building at 9:30AM. Fellow Master Naturalist and educator David Henderson is again leading the group.
