Austin REI — Getting to Know the Endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler

Date: 2/25/2014

Event Location: Austin REI

Event Fee: Free

Time: 6:30 – 8:00 PM CST

Presenter: Travis Audubon

Group Size: 30

Description: Every Golden-cheeked Warbler is a native Texan, born and raised nowhere else in the world. Travis Audubon’s Christopher Murray will acquaint you with interesting facts about this tiny songbird, including when and where you can find them in the Austin area, and what they need to thrive. Christopher Murray is the sanctuary steward for Travis Audubon’s Baker Sanctuary, a wildlife preserve for the Golden-cheeked Warbler and a partner in the 30,000+ acre Balcones Canyonlands Preserve system. Christopher has been managing the sanctuary since 2010 and assists with the annual Golden-cheeked Warbler 100-acre survey. Prior to his steward position with Travis Audubon, Christopher spent ten years working on ornithological projects across the mainland United Sates as well as in various exotic locales such as Hawaii, Australia, Baja Mexico, Papua New Guinea, and Cuba. In addition to ornithological work, Christopher has also spent five years teaching science in Hawaii and Austin, experience that he uses to help spread the conservation message of Travis Audubon and the Balcones Canyonlands.
