2nd Annual Blaze and Graze – November 8th, 2014

When: Afternoon and evening of Saturday, November 8
Where: Mustang Creek Country Club, Taylor, TX
Cost: $50 per person (children 14 years and under are free)
Come to one or all events – cost covers all plus dinner

Blaze and Graze Celebration Tours

Birding Tour: (8 – 11 am)
Auto & hiking tour of the Granger Lake area is especially good during fall migration and winter. Mountain Plovers, White Pelicans, Franklin’s Gulls, Longspurs, Burrowing Owl, Sprague’s Pipet, Northern Harriers , Red-tailed, & Ferruginous Hawks and Osprey are a few of the possibilities. Meet in the parking lot at the trailhead for the Comanche Bluff trail in Taylor Park. Tour will be led by experienced birders.
Note: Bring a sack lunch for lunch in the park or lunch in nearby Taylor, Texas

Grass and Forb Identification Tour: (1 pm – 3 pm)
Learn your grasses and forbs from a grass expert while walking in the Blackland Prairie Gene Bank and Chalk Prairie site. This is a great way to learn your native prairie plants. Meet at the Blackland Prairie Gene Bank site below the dam.

Butterfly & Insect Survey: (1 – 3 pm)
Look for butterflies and insects and help us catalog these inhabitants of the blackland prairie Ecoregion. We will visit 3 sites at Granger Lake on this surveying tour. Meet at the Blackland Prairie Gene Bank site below the dam.

Photography Tour: (3 – 5 pm) Meet at the parking lot at the trailhead to Comanche Bluff Trail at Granger Lake to photograph blackland prairie habitat along the trail.

If you just want to take photos, this is the tour for you. Join other photographers for a chance to photograph beautiful blackland prairie

General Prairie Tour: (3 pm – 5 pm)
This tour includes a visit to the Blackland Prairie Gene Bank Site, Chalk Prairie Site and privately owned prairie sites in the Granger lake area to see the flora and fauna of the blackland prairie habitat. Meet at the Blackland Prairie Gene Bank site below the dam. This is an auto tour and carpooling will be organized at the meeting site.
