· May Lunchtime Lecture – River Process: Fluvial Systems and Hydrology
· With May, we turn from the cultural geography of rivers and flowing water to their physical geography. Rivers write their way across the surface of the Earth, inscribing deeply or shallowly depending on the resistance of the surface to the flow of water and sediment carried by river currents. From the first flowing rill to the slow merge with sea at a river delta, fluvial systems shape the landscapes in which we live, and fluvial geomorphology reveals how dynamic those landscapes are. Join me for a talk about how rivers work as physical systems that transport water and sediment on the way to the sea – and lots about one of my heroes…Aldo’s son, Luna Leopold.
