Travis Audubon Volunteer Opportunities

Travis Audubon has scheduled several volunteer opportunities in December and January.  Master Naturalists volunteer hours may be credited for participation in these activities:

  1.  Hornsby Bend Monthly Bird Count;  This activity is scheduled for Saturday, December 12, from 7:00am – 10:30 am and then again from 4:00 pm until dusk.  You can survey birds in the morning and/or join the die-hards in the afternoon to search for birds missed in the morning count.  All levels of birders are welcome and no registration is required.  The Hornsby Bend Facility is located at the Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant, 2210 South FM 973, Austin, Texas 78725.  To reach the location drive east out of Austin on FM 973 to the plant location.  For additional information contact Eric Carpenter, [email protected]
  2. Booty’s Road Bird Count;  Join Ronnie Kramer December 12, from 8:00 am – 11:00 am searching for a good assortment of wintering and resident birds.  Expect to hike up to 3 miles.  For more information and to register, contact Ronnie Kramer, [email protected].
  3. Super Tuesday Bird Count at Slaughter Creek;  Join Ken Zaslow and bird a relatively new and undeveloped 306 acre park in south Austin (Slaughter Creek Greenbelt at Bauerle Ranch).  This activity is scheduled for Tuesday, December 8, from 7:30 am until 10:30 am.  Expect to walk about 2 miles of narrow and sometimes rocky trails.  This activity is limited to 12 people and registration is required.  To register and for more information and directions to the Greenbelt, contact Ken Zaslow at [email protected].
  4. Blair Woods Sanctuary Work Day;  This activity is scheduled Saturday, January 16, 9:00am – 12:00pm and will involve habitat improvement and conservation projects.  Blair Woods is located at 5401 E.   5.
