Balcones Canyonlands NWR has a busy spring planned and they are in need of volunteers to work in several areas. They have a need in April for an Interpretive Guide (date is not set). Knowledge of native plants, birding, photography and Refuge history would be helpful. Additional Interpretative Guides are needed throughout the spring and summer. If interested, training can be provided. They also will be conducting classes and outdoor activities for over 100 students from local schools. They need help in conducting their “Bridges to Birding” and “Going Buggy” programs. If you are not trained in these activities you can still help as an assistant, station guide or time keeper. If you can help in any of these activities contact Jane Brunclik at [email protected], or at 512-466-6813.
They also need volunteers to work in the refuge office greeting volunteers, providing information on the refuge, helping out with projects and other needs around the office as well as some maintenance of the pollinator garden in front of the headquarters building. If interested in helping in this area, contact Cindy Fronk at [email protected].
Michael Brasel is our Project Leader for the Canyonlands and can provide additional information regarding their planned activities and volunteer opportunities.
The Balcones NWR Headquarters is located on HWY 1431 just west of Lago Vista.
