Work Morning at Berry Springs Nature Trail

January 19, 2017 by vickizardiackas

We accomplished a lot of work on the trail before the work day on the 16th but there is still work to be done.

We have rescheduled the work morning for Fri. Jan. 27th 8:30am till noon. Weather permitting. You will be notified by email if we need to cancel.

If you are available and would like to work please sign up by responding to this email @    [email protected]

Also, please indicate which project(s) you would be interested in doing.

Everyone will need work gloves, water bottle and snack if you like. Dress appropriately for the weather. We will meet at the Nature Trailhead located of IH35 access road 3300 N. IH35. The entrance to the trail will be marked with cones to show you where to enter the park and where to park.

Projects are:

1). Weeding of Native Plant Garden. Bring hand tools including pruner tool, scissors, hand trowel, and a weeding tool. We need about 4 folks for this task.

2). Remove litter  and raise up limbs along the trail entrance road and trail head area. The road that leads to the entrance gate needs limbs to be raised so litter from IH35 is easier to remove and the area can be mowed. The same with the area near the trail head. Bring a good pair of Loppers. Litter sticks will be provided.

3) Removal of downed limbs along the nature trail. We have done a good job in cutting up debris into smaller manageable pieces for removal.  You will load ATV vehicles with the brush and it will be taken to our burn pile. Bring a good pair of loppers just in case you need them.

4) Continue to clear what we call Chinaberry Grove. Limbs will be cut up and hauled to a vehicle to be burned or chipped. Bring a good pair of loppers.

5) Digging up invasive bastard cabbage where it has started to pop up. Bring a sharp shooter shovel, and or weeding tool to pop up the plant for disposal. We have made great progress with removing this plant but it is an annual and sometimes old seeds are exposed and it pops up again.

If you have any questions please email or call me. As always your help is greatly appreciated.

Hope to see you there,

Susan Blackledge
