  • July 2017 Lunchtime Lecture – The Terrestrial City: Greenspace and the Urban Forest

Emerging from water to land, narratives of urban nature typically become stories about plants. Urban environmental managers, landscape architects, and urban planners talk of “greenspace,” “greenways,” and the “urban forest.” For an urban ecologist, the terrestrial city is habitat created by the colonial nesting mammal, Homo sapiens. But, “urban wildlife” also inhabits the terrestrial city alongside humans. This lecture will examine these various perspectives on urban terrestrial habitats and the flora and fauna that inhabit urban landscapes.
