AT Friends Workshop – Grass Walk at Russell Tract

September 24, 2019 by kateknight

Fall is coming to the Hill Country, let’s get out and enjoy it!

Join us for an interesting and informative Grass Walk with plant expert Bill Carr on refuge property not normally open to the public. The walk will begin at 9:00 am at Landherr Ranch and last until approximately 12:00 pm on October 26.

Mr. Carr is a noted field botanist who has worked on plant inventories, surveys and protection efforts for Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Nature Conservancy of Texas, and his own firm, Acme Botanical Services. As well, he was a co-author on the reference volume, Rare Plants of Texas (Texas A&M University Press 2007).

There will be something for you whether you are an experienced or a beginning “grasser”, or maybe you just want to learn to identify native and exotic grasses here in Central Texas.

We will be hiking the adjacent Landherr property and the Russell Tract which have small elevation changes, mowed paths, and are fairly easy walks. Total distance is about one mile. Birders should also bring their cameras and binoculars to spot any birds while on the hike.

9:00 a.m. Russell-Landherr Tracts 7660 W FM 243 Bertram, TX 78605

Entrance to Properties is .2 miles south of Twisted Ranch Weddings in Bertram

Note: Do not trust GPS for this location!

Registration is now open to paid FOBCNWR members.

Registration will be open to the general public October 11, 2019.

Be sure to register early, this event is limited to 15 people.
