Specific Details From Rowan For Interested Volunteers:
Rowan will have everything setup at the Play Ranch. Volunteers will facilitate free play. This looks like: helping kids create their masterpieces — building, spelling with rocks, etc. Basically you will help them enjoy structured free-play time, and also supervise safety. Parents will be around, but it is great to have volunteer eyes to make sure materials aren’t walking away/being used in unsafe ways.
What is Loose Parts Nature Play?
“The Theory of Loose Parts” proposes that items which can be moved around, built, tinkered with, and arranged in a variety of ways foster creative thinking and engagement in people better than other learning methods. LPNP takes that same theory and applies it to nature-based learning! Staff will provide baskets full of items pulled from nature (think leaves, pinecones, sticks, bamboo, tree cookies, etc.) and let kids’ imaginations run wild! This is supervised, but unguided, free play time, where kiddos of all ages are encouraged to be creative and play with the things around them.
