The Final Winter 2017 Owl Prowl was led by noted environmental educator, Dawn Vollmer McCook, and held at WG Jones State Forest on Saturday, March 4. It reached homeschoolers, their families and many from the public. In all, 180 people attended one of three placed-based learning sessions in February and March designed to engage and create wonderment among youth and adults about healthy forest benefits in diverse wildlife habitats.
WG Jones State Forest is one of the nation’s largest managed urban forests and is participating in Every Kid in the Park (EKiP) program. Every 4th grader present during the owl prowls received a specialized certificate that allows them and their family FREE entrance at any public parks and lands managed by USDA Forest Service, National Parks Service, US Corp of Engineers and US Fish & Wildlife Service.
