From feather groups to field marks, “birding art” can train your eye for the details. Ever struggled with differentiating the various sparrows, warblers, or flycatchers? Join Houston Audubon as we take a close look at the details, melding art and science with form and function. Hear about the process of one creative educator and birder on a mission to use art as a bridge for conservation and nature appreciation.
Biography: Amber Leung is the Nature Programs Manager for Houston Audubon, where she teaches out of the Edith L Moore Nature Sanctuary. Her passion lies in extolling the virtues of ALL the parts of a healthy ecosystem, especially the underappreciated ones. She creates detailed nature illustrations to build conservation awareness and was invited to produce the American kestrel artwork featured in the 2024 Great Texas Birding Classic. In her spare time, she spends time with her two daughters, works on her own native garden, and occasionally rescues wayward venomous snakes from neighbors’ yards.
Business Meeting (Volunteer): VMS: CB: Chapter Meeting-Heartwood (Attended monthly chapter meeting)
Advanced Training: VMS: AT: Chapter Meeting-Heartwood (Better Birding Through Art presented by Amber Leung)
