Our local Lone Star College hosts classes to enrich the lives of seniors. Activities this year include birding and native plant classes. Membership is only $25 for the academic year and entitles you to take courses at the seven Lone Star College campuses and offsite locations.
Of particular interest are the classes led by past Heartwood President Krien VerBerkmoes. He will present an Introduction to Birding on March 6, and an Advanced Birding class on March 20, both from 10am-12pm at the University Center, Lone Star Montgomery. There are two field trips scheduled offsite on April 3 and April 17, both from 8:30-11am.

Classes scheduled to take place at Lake Houston Wilderness Parks include Basic Wilderness Survival Skills (March 20) and Native Gardening and Its Impact on the Ecosystem (April 17). These classes will be held from 9-11am.

Jesse Jones Park will host a class on the diversity of freshwater fish that live in Spring Creek on May 1, from 1-3pm. Classes will begin at the Nature Center and include a short walking tour if weather permits.

Lone Star College Tomball also presents classes to enhance a naturalist’s knowledge. A class on February 28 from 10am-12pm, for you budding entomologists is Guess Who? Is That a Butterfly or a Moth? On March 27, 10am-12pm, eBird? iBird? What’s that Bird? is an introduction to the many resources available for bird identification, from print to app.
