Bats : Heroes of the Night Sky

June 10, 2020 by heartwoodpres

On June 3, 2020, DeAndra Ramsey gave a presentation on bats in the Houston area. We opened the webinar to Texas Master Naturalists across the state and had a maximum of 145 people attend virtually. There was much interest in the slide show, so Ms. Ramsey has allowed us to post it here for you.

Bats – Heroes of the night sky (1)

The video can be found at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viJ5Mav3nWg&feature=youtu.be

She provided the following resources for those who wish to delve deeper into the topic of bats.

  • https://pubs.er.usgs.gov/publication/ofr20201060 – A publication discussing the threat Covid19 poses to our bats here in North America
  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJ2jDPgvbTY – An awesome video that goes into the science as to why the ability of flight also contributes to bats abilities to fight off viruses
  • https://www.philhardbergerpark.org/naturalists-notes/nature-talk-creating-habitat-for-bats – A page focused on making spaces Bat Friendly
