Butterfly Garden at Dennis Johnston Park

March 13, 2021 by heartwoodpres

709 Riley Fuzzel Rd. Spring, TX 77373

Dennis Johnston Park is home to a pollinator garden that was installed and maintained by the Spring Creek Education Society.

Mission of the Butterfly Garden:

The Spring Creek Education Society is a non-profit organization with a mission to support educational opportunities for a broad spectrum of learners. The Butterfly and Hummingbird Garden is a habitat that survived and thrived during and after the Houston floods. It is a garden in a naturalistic habitat for pollinators and for eye-appeal for visitors and local communities.

Goal (from Pct 4):

To create a well-maintained native garden dedicated to enhancing pollinator education. The garden should receive regular maintenance on a predictable work schedule that includes community volunteers and park staff.  The garden should be aesthetically pleasing, yet still provide habitat, food sources for both pollinator insects and birds.

Proposed work schedule:

  • Maintenance to be done by Pct 4 staff and community volunteers on a regular basis.  Upcoming work dates listed below.
