Member categories:
- Member in training: New trainee from the start of training to last day of training period
- Pledge: Has completed training but not been certified; still needs to complete 40 hours of volunteer service and 8 hours of advanced training. Has one year from end of training to complete the required volunteer service and advanced training.
- Certified Naturalist: Has completed the 40 hours of volunteer service and 8 hours of advanced training for the year, and paid annual dues.
- Member: Has previously certified, but has failed to complete the 40 hours of volunteer service and 8 hours of advanced training for the year or failed to pay annual dues.
