Once again this year Teri MacArthur will be recruiting volunteers to assist with setting and monitoring traps for invasive insects. There will be two locations: On the grounds of Jones State Forest, and in the woods near my office on Millennium Forest. As many as 3 to 5 volunteers could take turns or work together on the project. It will begin late February and run for 12 weeks from the date we set traps. It entails about an hour to an hour-and-a-half the first time to set the traps and get the initial supplies organized. Then it is about one hour, every two weeks for a total of 6 monitoring events – collecting insects and adding lures to the traps.
If anyone is interested, please let me know as soon as possible. i expect to receive lures mid-Feb and want to set a date for orientation and trap setting before the end of Feb. It could be a weekday or weekend, but i need to plan out the time. We can meet at my office to discuss or on-site at Jones Forest if you are available to trap at that location. I have attached the updated protocols for this year’s trapping, but caution that it works BEST if the instructions are discussed. Some phrasing has been mis-interpreted by volunteers in the past.
Look forward to hearing from you!
Warm regards,
Teri MacArthur
