Through Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s (TPWD) Texas Waters program, a corps of well-informed volunteer specialists is developed who provide education, outreach, and service dedicated to the beneficial management of aquatic resources and aquatic habitats within their communities for the state of Texas. Certification requirements, advanced training, and service opportunities can be found on TPWD’s Texas Water Specialist webpage. Join one or all the Texas Waters webinars to learn about Texas aquatic ecosystems, partnerships, water laws, and conservation efforts. Texas Stream Team is a water quality community science program that has been active since 1991. Texas Stream Team trains individuals and groups on how to monitor water quality using a series of chemical tests, which allows them to connect to and understand the health of their local waterways. No experience necessary!
Ally Schlandt is the Program and Outreach Specialist at the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment’s Watershed Services division. In this role she helps run the Texas Stream Team Community Science program by leading water quality trainings and providing education and outreach events, and also works on various projects such as the Texas General Land Office’s Clean Coast Texas program and water quality monitoring for the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Clean Rivers Program. She received her Bachelor of Science in Geography – Resource and Environmental Studies in 2019 and received her Master of Science in Geography in 2022, both from Texas State University. |
