Mark your calendar for April 9th at 7:00 pm! Dr Amanda Adams, the Director of Research Coordination for Bat Conservation International will be our guest presenter. You don’t want to miss this.
Artificial light at night (ALAN) disrupts bats’ habitat use; behavior, including activity patterns, flight trajectories, foraging, drinking, and roosting; physiological processes; and survival. Bats’ responses to ALAN are species-specific, but additional complexity is added due to variable responses to lighting technologies, colors, intensities, and exposure duration. It is crucial that we understand how ALAN contributes to habitat loss, fragmentation, and degradation to develop effective mitigation strategies to conserve bat populations and maintain the integrity of nocturnal ecosystems in an increasingly illuminated world.
Dr. Amanda Adams has worked with bats globally for over 20 years and has been part of Bat Conservation International (BCI) since 2019. As the Director of Research Coordination, she promotes conservation research and builds partnerships to support bat conservation. She runs BCI’s Student Research Scholarship Program, works closely with the North American Bat Monitoring Program, researches scalable solutions to white-nose syndrome, and collaborates to find wildlife-friendly options for renewable energy. Amanda specializes in bioacoustics and has broad research experience, particularly in behavioral ecology. She received her Ph.D. from Western University in Canada and a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of California, San Diego. She completed postdoctoral research at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Texas A&M University.
